Four buses of excited campers arrived with smiling faces this morning. We spent the morning getting everyone settled in, unpacked, and checked in before playing some basic get-to know-you games. By lunch, the teams are well acquainted and working together.
After a big lunch they spend about an hour of rest time. This gets them out of the sun for the hottest part of the day and also gives them a bit of time to get to know each other in smaller group setting, as they get to hang out with just the other people in their tents. It is also a chance to have a bit of unstructured time when they can partake in activities that they choose themselves.
All the campers are divided into color teams. When you are looking for photos of your children, it is important to know what color team they are on. If you don't remember from the morning, the best way to figure it out is to look in the tent pictures folder. When you find your precious, notice the color of the lanyard that holds their name tag. That will be their color team.
We have four activity periods each day, two in the morning and two in the afternoon. The color teams had the following activities this afternoon.
Green team: Giant Swing and crafts
Orange team: Crafts and Giant Swing
Pink team: River tracing and ecology
Blue team: Ecology and river tracing
Purple team (Teen camp): Climbing and archery
If you are wondering what some of these activities are, you can see a brief description of each activity here.
The campers have all showered and are enjoying their dinner now. After dinner, they will have a short time time to write in their journals. Then we will have our first campfire of the week. We will sing songs, play some campfire games, of course, roast marshmallows for s'mores. It is great fun.
Below, you will find a link to photos. A note about photos: We give each team a camera with which to take photos during activities. They try their best to get good photos, but their first priority is managing the campers to be sure everyone is being safe and having fun. It is also important to remember that children act differently when being photographed. Some children turn to the camera and smile for a photo, while others turn away and hide their faces. We will take as many photos as we can and try our best to get photos of everyone's children eventually, but your understanding is appreciated.
