We picked up the campers right on time at 9:40. They were full of energy and excited to get out to camp. There was a bit of holiday traffic on the highway, so it took a little longer than usual to get to camp.

We showed the campers their tents and let them have a few minutes to drop off their luggage, and then held a few ice breaker games. Although the kids already know each other, it is important for them to get to know that counselors and for the counselors to get to know them.

We had a big lunch of spaghetti and salad, etc. and then the campers had a bit of free time to set up their tents or hang out with their tentmates. A little rest period in the middle of the day keeps the campers out of the sun during the hottest part of the day.

Speaking of which, the weather has been absolutely beautiful today. It has been a little cool with a refreshing breeze. It was a little cloudy, but we didn't have any rain.

Since this is the first trip to camp for these students, let me tell you how it works. We divided the students into three groups, the pink team, the green team, and the purple team. These teams will eat together and rotate through activities as a group. For example, while the pink team is climbing, the purple team might be doing archery. Then they switch. We have two 90-minute activity periods in the morning and two in the afternoon. Today, the campers had the following schedules:

Pink team started with archery, and then got to test their courage on the giant swing. The purple team got to explore their creative side by making tie-dye shirts and then went on to climbing. The green team started the afternoon strong with the giant swing. Most of the students went all the way to the top. Then they got a chance to settle down a bit with some tie-dye. Everyone will have a new shirt when they come home.

The campers have all had a shower and are just finishing up their dinner. After dinner, we will have our camp fire program. We will sing some songs, play a few games, and of course we will roast marshmallows to make s'mores.

That is all for tonight. Below is a link to a Dropbox folder with pictures. Please remember that you will only have access to this blog for a few days. We will change the password when the next group arrives at camp, so please download any pictures you want to keep as soon as possible.
