Once we arrived at Camp Taiwan, we got everyone settled into their tents, unpacked, and made up their beds. With that taken care of, we spent the rest of the morning playing name games and icebreakers—just the right way to help campers start getting to know one another.
After a hearty spaghetti lunch and a bit of downtime to rest and recharge, we kicked off our afternoon activities. Each day at camp includes four 90-minute activity periods, and campers rotate through a variety of sessions. So while one team is at archery, another might be climbing, crafting, or doing something completely different. It’s a fun and active schedule that lets everyone try something new.
Here’s what the teams got up to this afternoon:
Red and Pink Teams (combined): Sports and Crafts
Blue Team: Crafts and River Tracing
Orange Team: STEM and Giant Swing
Green Team: River Tracing and STEM
Gray Team (Teens): Climbing and Sports

For today’s STEM project, campers built a glider using a unique design of two paper loops taped onto a straw. First, they followed specific instructions to create a standard design. Then, in pairs, they experimented with modifications—changing the loop sizes or straw length—to see who could come up with the best-performing glider. It turned into a fun and friendly engineering challenge!
Once activity time wrapped up, everyone had a chance to shower and get ready for dinner. Right now, they’re just finishing up their meal. After dinner, they’ll write in their journals before heading into our Opening Campfire. Tonight’s campfire includes counselor skits, group games, traditional songs, and—of course—a marshmallow roast with s’mores to end the evening on a sweet note.
That’s a wrap for today! Be sure to take a look at the day’s photos. If you’re not sure which team your child is on, try starting with the tent pictures—campers wear a name tag with a lanyard in their team’s color. Once you spot them, you can jump into the matching folder for activity photos.
