TAS Grade 2 Group 3

We have been lucky with the weather these three days, and it held out for one more day. It was a considerably larger group of campers that showed up this morning, and they came with that much extra energy.

The students spent the day rotating through activities in groups of about 12–15. Since they are only in 2nd grade, we adjusted the schedule a little and made each activity period 75 minutes rather than our standard 90 minutes. That shorter format worked well for this age group and gave them a chance to enjoy each activity without getting too tired or losing focus.

Today’s activities were:

Bouldering: This was a first step into rock climbing. The students climbed on our level-one wall, where they stay close to the ground and do not need ropes. Before climbing, they learned the basics of spotting so they could help keep each other safe while taking turns on the wall.

Ecology: For ecology, the students headed out around camp to see what they could discover in the natural environment. With a list of things to search for, they looked carefully for insects, small animals, water creatures, and other signs of life. It is always fun to see how quickly kids become curious once they start noticing what is around them.

Frisbee Golf: In frisbee golf, the students moved from target to target around camp, trying to hit each one with as few throws as possible. It has some of the structure of golf, but with Frisbees instead of clubs and balls. The activity gave them a chance to practice aim, patience, and a little friendly competition.

Cooperative Games: These games are built around teamwork. Instead of one person winning alone, the group has to listen to each other, share ideas, and figure out a solution together. The challenges are simple enough to be fun, but they still require communication and cooperation.

After the final activity, the students had a snack and then got ready to head back to school. It was a full day, and they handled it very well. We hope they had a great introduction to Camp Taiwan, and we look forward to welcoming them back next year for their first overnight camp experience.
