TAS Grade 2 Group 2

It was another warm and sunny day when the second group of campers rolled into camp. The kids were full of energy and enthusiasm for their first trip to camp.
Like yesterday, the students moved through the day in small groups of about 12–15. Because this group is only in 2nd grade, we shortened each activity period to 75 minutes instead of our usual 90-minute blocks. This gave them enough time to try each activity without asking them to focus for too long.
Today’s activities included:
Bouldering: Bouldering is a beginner-friendly introduction to rock climbing. The students used our level-one climbing wall and stayed only a few feet above the ground, so ropes were not needed. Before anyone started climbing, they learned how to spot each other safely.
Ecology: Camp Taiwan is a great place for children to explore nature up close. During ecology, the students searched for insects, small water creatures, and other signs of life around camp. They were given a list of things to look for, which turned the activity into a hands-on nature hunt.
Frisbee Golf: Frisbee golf is just about what it sounds like: part Frisbee, part golf. We have targets set up around camp, and the students took turns throwing their Frisbees toward each one. The goal was to hit the target in the fewest throws possible before moving on to the next “hole.”
Cooperative Games: These short challenges are designed to get students thinking and working together. Each game asks the group to communicate, make a plan, and solve a problem as a team.
At the end of the day, we had a quick snack before helping the students get back on the bus. They seemed to enjoy their time at camp, and we hope to see them again next year for their first overnight trip.
