The kids showed up this morning full of excitement and energy for their first trip to Camp Taiwan. The weather was great and everything was set for a great day.
We rotate through the following activities in groups of 12-15 students. Since the kids are only in 2nd grade and have shorter attention spans, the activity periods are just 75 minutes instead of the usual 90.
Today's activities:
Bouldering: This is an intro to rock climbing. They climb on the level one wall, but they never get more than a few feet off the ground, so they don't need a rope. Before climbing, the campers are trained to spot each other.
Ecology: Camp is the ideal place for kids to get out and catch all sorts of insects and water critters. The campers are given a list of things that they need to find.
Frisbee golf: If you have heard of Frisbee and you have heard of golf, you can probably guess what this is. We have a number of targets set up around Camp. They campers take turns throwing the frisbee toward the target. The team that hits the target with the least number of throws wins that "hole."
Cooperative Games: These are short games that are designed to challenge the kids to work together and come up with a strategy to complete the game.
We finished the day with a quick snack before putting the kids back on bus. They seemed to have a good day. We are looking forward to having them back next year for their first overnight.
