The campfire last night was a lot of fun. We sang some silly songs and played a couple of games to get all the kids up, moving, and involved. Then the counselors had a funny skit that they performed for the campers. In the closing campfire on Friday night, the campers will perform their own skits, so it is a good example.
The campers woke up bright and early this morning. That is normal for the first morning at camp. After a day or two, they are both more tired and more used to sleeping in the tent, so they won't wake up quite so early.
After breakfast, we started on our rotation activities again. The teams had the following schedule. I already described many of the activities in yesterday's blog, so I will go over these fairly quickly.
Red Team: Crafts and River Tracing in the morning and Ecology in the afternoon.
Orange Team: Giant Swing and Sports in the morning and Crafts in the afternoon.
Blue Team: Sports and Crafts in the morning and River Tracing in the afternoon.
Green Team: Ecology and Giant Swing in the morning and sports in the afternoon
The Teens (Gray Team): The two teen groups alternated between Giant Ladder and Zipline in the morning, and in the afternoon, they all did Cooperative Games* together.
*Cooperative games are short games that are designed to get the team to work together to solve a challenge. Each team will have a period of cooperative games, but the games will vary depending on the age of the campers.
In the afternoon, the radar looked foreboding, so we all teens and youth campers moved inside for a period of indoor games. In this case, there was a series of short challenges that just take a couple of minutes. For each challenge, each team sends one or two representatives up to compete. Despite the big multi-colored blob hanging over us on the radar, it didn't actually start raining until it was almost the end of the period. But it is better to be safe than sorry.
The campers have showered and are eating dinner. We are hoping that it will be dry enough to play an outdoor night game tonight. The plan is for counselor hunt, which is basically hide and seek where the counselors hide and the campers have to find them. We will let you know how it goes tomorrow.
