PAS students and staff have settled into camp for the start of their three-day session. Campers started with a snack and an introduction to camp life before their first rotation activity got underway around 11 am.

A quick note for families new to Camp Taiwan: each day is divided into ninety-minute periods, and campers rotate through activities together in small groups of 11 or 12. Campers enjoyed several of our most exciting activities today, so we're off to an amazing start!

Today's activities included:

Pink Team (Grades 4 & 5): AM – Giant Swing; PM – Cooperative Games

Brown Team (Grade 6): AM – Archery; PM – Giant Swing

Green Team (Grades 7 & 8): AM – Zip Line; PM – Archery

Yellow Team (Grades 7 & 8): AM – River Tracing; PM – Zip Line

Gray Team (Grades 7 & 8): AM – Giant Ladder; PM – River Tracing

Our website has explanations of many of these activities, if you'd like to see what your camper got up to: https://www.camptaiwan.com.tw/activities

Rain moved in during the morning activity block and fell on and off for the rest of the day, but camp life and activities carried on as usual. To close out the afternoon, the whole camp came together for a Wide Game called Rainbow Tag. Campers split into teams, each given a colored bandana to wear on their pocket or waistband, and started at their own home base. Once the game began, campers spread out to try to capture a player from the next color in the rainbow order by pulling their bandana (red chases orange, orange chases yellow, and so on) — after a successful capture, both players returned to the captor's base, where a counselor marked the captor's arm with a stripe in the captured color. The goal: be the first to collect a stripe for every color of the rainbow. As the game went on, it got trickier, since campers never quite knew who was targeting them next!

After the Wide Game, campers took hot showers before sitting down to dinner, and it's safe to say everyone had worked up an appetite.

Day 1 finished up with our campfire. Counselors led a couple of songs and fun activities, and everyone finished the night by roasting marshmallows and making s'mores.

Please note that you'll have access to this blog for a limited time, so be sure to download any pictures you'd like to keep.

That's a wrap on Day 1! It was a great start to the camp, and campers were already settling right in. See the link below for today's photos.
