TYAS School Camp, Day 1 - Off to a Great Swing!

TYAS students arrived at camp a little later than planned, but with a few quick schedule adjustments, every rotation activity still went ahead. The sun was out to welcome everyone to camp, making for a cheerful start to the day's activities.

Today's activities included:

Green Team: AM – Zip Line; PM – Cooperative Games, Giant Swing

Purple Team: AM – Giant Swing; PM – River Tracing, Giant Ladder

Brown Team: AM – Cooperative Games; PM – Giant Swing, River Tracing

With a high of 28 degrees, campers were kept well protected and hydrated all day. To close out the afternoon, the whole camp played a Wide Game called Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy, a mix of capture the flag and rugby, with one twist: only shoulder tags, no tackling. There was plenty of running, strategizing and laughing. Afterward, campers had a chance to shower and sat down to dinner, and everyone had worked up an appetite!

Day 1 finished up with Party Night in the Dining Hall, where campers danced, played and celebrated a great first day. We capped everything off by roasting marshmallows over the camp fire and making S'mores. Nights are cool this time of year, around 22 degrees, a great temperature to sleep.
