We got off to a bit of a late start today, which made for a busy afternoon once we arrived. The campers reached camp around 3:30 p.m., and instead of our usual routine of unpacking bags and settling into the tents, we jumped right into team-building activities. Campers gathered with their teams for some fun ice-breakers and name games to help them get to know their new friends.
The late afternoon weather wasn't too bad, but since it was getting close to evening, we decided to keep the rest of the day’s activities indoors. Our main event was a lively game called Four Corners—though today, with five teams, it became Five Corners. During this activity, teams take turns sending one or two teammates to the front to compete in quick challenges. Each round’s winner earns a point for their team. The challenges were a mix of silly and skillful tasks, like moving marbles from a plate to a bowl using only chopsticks, balancing six dice on a popsicle stick held in your mouth, or seeing who can catch the most pencils tossed into the air. The campers had a great time competing and cheering loudly for their teammates.
Afterward, we enjoyed a big dinner together and headed straight into our opening campfire. Campfire is always a highlight at Camp Taiwan, filled with games, funny skits, and classic camp songs. Of course, we finished the night with everyone’s favorite treat—roasting marshmallows and making s’mores around the fire.
Right now, the campers are winding down, heading off to showers and spending some time with their counselors. They'll reflect on the day and talk a little about what’s in store for tomorrow.
That’s it for tonight’s update. Tomorrow will be our first full day of activities, and we’ll have plenty more stories to share. In the meantime, you can check out today’s photos in the Dropbox link below.
