We were prepared for rain today, but it turned out to be one of those glorious spring days in Taiwan. Three buses of excited campers rolled into camp around 9:20. We got them all settled into their tents and then brought them up to the dining hall for a quick orientation before heading off to their first activities.
The red team had river tracing this morning. Some of the parents were worried that the water would be too cold, but it was actually very nice indeed. The blue team had archery. The kids get basic instruction in how to hold the bow, nock an arrow and shoot. Kids who have been to Camp Taiwan several times over the years actually get quite good at it. The gray team had Giant Swing. This is one of our classic Camp Taiwan activities. Follow the link if you want to know more about the Giant Swing and some of the other camp activities. Finally, the yellow team had climbing on our 18-meter climbing wall. Climbing is a great way for kids to build not only strength, but also perseverance.
In the afternoon, we switched the teams around so they had the following activities.
Red Team: Climbing and Giant Swing
Blue Team: River Tracing and Climbing
Gray Team: Archery and River Tracing
Yellow Team: Giant Swing and Archery
After their activities, all the kids took a shower and are currently just finishing up their dinner. When they are finished, we will have our Campfire program and roast marshmallows for s'mores. After that, we will shuffle them all off to bed. It has been a busy day, so I think they will sleep well.
Below is a link to a few pictures of the day. Please note that the password to the blog will be changed when the next school comes to Camp, so you should save the link or download any pictures you wish to save.
If your child enjoyed their stay at Camp Taiwan and you want a bit more, there are a couple of options.
Summer Camp
We have weekly sessions of our regular English summer camp in July and August and our Mandarin program from June 7th to 11th. Summer camp is a great opportunity for kids to develop confidence and independence by trying new things in a supportive atmosphere.
Family Camp
Family Camps are a way for the whole family to share in the fun and adventure of Camp Taiwan. Groups of 10 to 15 families ( Minimum 40 people) book the whole site and come share in the activities that your children have been telling you about. It is a great way to get to know the families of your child's classmates or your coworkers.
