Welcome to our parents' blog for the TES year four group trip. It was a bit rainy when three buses of excited campers rolled into camp today but that certainly didn't dampen their spirits. We got them settled into their tents and then brought them up to the dining hall for a quick orientation. By 10:30 we were getting started on our first round of activities.
If you're not familiar with our program, we divide the group into teams of approximately 15 students each, designated by colors. There will be a link at the end of this post to a folder of pictures. You will find your children organized by color team.
Our day is divided into 90-minute activity periods, plus certain periods of free time. The teams will rotate through their activities in the 90-minute periods. For example, when the brown team is doing archery, the red team might be doing zipline, and they would switch later.
For today, the teams had the following schedules:
Red team: river tracing, archery, zipline
Brown team: Archery, river tracing, and climbing
Pink team: Climbing, zipline, and river tracing
For climbing, we stick with the level-one wall and the cargo net for this age group. That gives campers a chance to be successful and build a little bit of confidence. Despite the air being cold and rather wet, reports from the teachers and counselors who went river tracing are that the water in the river was actually quite nice.
If you want to know more about some of these activities, you can find a description of some of them here: https://www.camptaiwan.com.tw/activities
After the activities, the campers all had a chance to take a shower and get warm and dry before coming up for dinner. They are just finishing their dinner now. When they are all full, they'll have a short period to write in their journals so you can see what they say about their day. We'll end the evening with our famous campfire program. We'll sing a few songs, play a few games, and of course it wouldn't be at a campfire without roasting marshmallows for s'mores.
