We have had a beautiful day here at camp Taiwan. It clouded up a little in the afternoon at times, but we didn't get any rain. The kids arrived full of energy and we rolled them into their first activities as quickly as possible.
We divide the campers into teams of about 12 people and each team is assigned a color. These teams rotate through the activities in 90-minute periods. So while the yellow team is climbing on the climbing wall, the blue team might be doing archery. Then the Yellow team might move on to crafts, and the blue team could go to archery.
Today, the teams had the following activities:
Pink Team: Zipline in the morning and Ecology in the afternoon
Yellow Team: Crafts in the morning and Zipline in the afternoon.
Gray Team: Orienteering then crafts
Purple Team: Climbing followed by orienteering
Brown Team: Archery and Climbing
If you want to know more about these activities, there is a description of some of them here: https://www.camptaiwan.com.tw/activities
For the crafts this year, the campers wove a water bottle holder out of string. It is a fun activity and they have a practical item that they can use during their stay at camp and take home.
For our second afternoon period, we had a wide game, which is when everyone plays together. Today's game was Sushi Go. It is based on a popular board game but modified to be an outdoor game. Campers are all given a card with a certain type of sushi on it. They have to wander around and find other campers with specific kinds of sushi in order to make the perfect bento box. However, if a group gets tagged by a teacher or counselor, the group has to disperse and start over. It's a lot of fun and the kids enjoy playing a big game together.
This evening, we will have our opening Campfire program. We have a number of games and songs that the counselors will lead, and we will end the evening by roasting marshmallows for s'mores.
That is all for tonight. Be sure to check out the photos in the Dropbox folder linked below. So that you can figure out what team you child is on, I tried to get a photo that has most of the children and name it with the team name. These are in the main folder. Once you know which team your child is on, you can look in that folder. I apologize if not every child is in the photos. Also, unfortunately, there wasn't a good photo with all the members of the gray team.
