Session 3 Day 5
Today, we started something new. The campers have done all of the regularly scheduled activities. We moved on to our Free Choice Activities for today. The campers are given 5-6 options to choose from, and they get to pick three. Some of these are activities that they have done before, but want a second chance at, and some are brand new options.
The Free-Choice options were:
Zipline: This is one of the most popular activities at camp, and almost everyone chose this. However, it is not for everyone, and it is the only activity that has a height requirement, so not everyone would be able to do it if we made it part of the regular rotation. Therefore, it is in the Free Choice category.
Pond Play: We have a small cement lined pond here at camp. It is not very big, but it is just enough for the counselors to play some fun games. The also set up a slip-n-slide. It is a great way to cool off on a hot day.
Shrimping: Kids love to get out in nature and catch little critters. There are all kinds of pools and streams to explore around camp.
Crafts: This is another popular option, especially with the girls, but not exclusively by any means. The craft was just similar enough to the previous project for the kids to feel like they have mastered it by the end of the second round.
Archery: We continue on from the basic archery lesson and let the campers test for a level one or level two sticker.
The photos will be arranged by activity today instead of by team. You may have to look through several folders to find your child.
The teens had an interesting day. They started the day with fire-building and outdoor cooking. They had to go out and cut down some pieces of bamboo. Then they had to cut it to length and fill it with a mixture of rice, mushrooms, etc. They packed the rice into the bamboo and cooked it. They also roasted meat over their open fire.
Our final period was spent preparing for our closing campfire this evening. Each team will give a little performance for the group. The winning team gets the coveted Oscar sticker on their sticker card. It is a lot of fun and an nice way to close out the week. We also have a little ceremony that helps the campers to reflect on the week.

Tomorrow, we will post a link for the photos for the entire week, so you can review and download any you missed. There will also be a slideshow and video of the week's highlights.
We will arrive at the Taipei Gymnasium around 3 pm for the camper drop-off. If you are driving, please park in one of the nearby parking garages and leave the yellow line clear for our buses. Also, please let the counselors get the campers and their luggage off to the side before taking your children. It is very important that the counselors see and document who is taking each child, so please don't take your child without checking out.
