The weather has been more cooperative today than we expected. We woke up to scattered showers. Throughout the day, it has been periods of rain with periods of sunshine interspersed, the sunny parts becoming more common as the day went on and the rainy parts less so. So far, we seem to have been very lucky. I know there are parts along the East coast, that got some quite windy weather, but we are sheltered a bit by the shape of the land
When we finished breakfast, the weather was quite good, so we decided to have an outdoor wide game while we had the chance. They played a game called infection. Infection is a fast-moving, high-energy tag game that spreads like… well, an infection! At the start, one counselor is “infected” and tries to tag the campers. Each person they tag joins the infected team, and together they chase down the remaining “healthy” players. The game gets more intense as the infected group grows. The last uninfected camper standing is the winner!
Since we had planned most of our day to be indoors, we then moved inside to play Table Top Games. Usually, the teams would rotate through this activity as described previously. However, due to the circumstances, we all gathered in the dining hall and broke out the games. Campers had some freedom to move from team to team so that they could join a game they were interested in.
After lunch and the rest hour, we played another wide game. We had planned an indoor activity, but the weather seemed good enough that is seemed a shame to stay indoors. This wide game is called King Me. Each team has a base, and players are given playing cards. As they move toward the other team's base (or stay behind to protect their own), they challenge each other by presenting the playing cards. The winner gets to keep moving forward, while the loser has to go back to the base to get another card. The team that makes it to the opposing team's base and conquers the King or Queen is the winner.
For our final period, we moved back indoors for crafts. The campers made a woven snake keychain out of parachute cord. It is quite cute and you should find it in your child's luggage when they return. Again, this is an activity that we would usually rotate through, but we had everyone in the dining hall doing it together.
For our evening program we will have our weekly movie night. After a couple of days of high energy activities, it is good for the campers to have a chance to settle down a bit and have a rest. We make popcorn and create our own little theater right here at camp. The movie tonight is Yes Day. It's about a couple who agree to say yes to everything for 24 hours.
That is all for today. Please check out the pictures for today.
