Session 5 Day 3: A Beautiful Day

Last night’s game was a hit! The campers jumped into their roles as herbivores, omnivores, and carnivores. They explored camp searching for hidden stations representing food, water, and shelter. Meanwhile, the herbivores had to stay alert and avoid being tagged by the carnivores and omnivores. Everyone got really into it, and it was a lot of fun.

When we met for our morning meeting in the tent areas, most of the campers were still fast asleep. That’s typical for the second morning. On the first night, they’re not used to the sounds of the forest and often wake up early. But by the second night, they’ve adjusted—and after all the activity, they’re ready for a bit more sleep!

Once everyone was up and had eaten breakfast, we continued with our scheduled rotations. Here’s what each team was up to today:

  • Red/Pink Team: Climbing, Archery, and Pond Play

  • Blue Team: Archery, Pond Play, and Table-top Games

  • Green Team: Pond Play, Table-top Games, and Cooperative Games

  • Orange Team: Table-top Games, Cooperative Games, and Climbing

You might be wondering what Pond Play is. We have a small pond at camp where kids and counselors splash around and play fun water games. It’s not deep—only about waist-high for our youngest campers. They also get to enjoy our Slip-N-Slide, which is always a crowd favorite. If you’re not sure what that is, be sure to look at the photos. It is just what it sounds like.

For our fourth activity period, we played another wide game: Hunt and Chase. In this game, campers are divided into teams and given colored bandanas to hang from their pocket. The goal is to catch players from other teams by grabbing their bandana. When a camper catches someone from a different team, both return to the catcher’s team base, where the captured player switches teams. The game continues until only one color remains. It’s fast-paced and tons of fun!

The Gray Team (our teens) had a big day. They headed to the beach in the morning for kayaking and beach games. This is one of the highlights of teen camp. The trip takes the entire morning, so they returned just in time for lunch, all smiles and full of stories. In the afternoon, they had a crafts session before joining the younger campers for the wide game.

Tonight is Movie Night, a long-standing Wednesday tradition at Camp Taiwan. We turn the space into a mini theater, serve popcorn, and let the campers relax. Tonight’s movie is Shrek—the story of a grumpy ogre whose peaceful swamp is disrupted by fairy-tale creatures. Along the way, he goes on a wild adventure that’s full of humor, heart, and just the right amount of gross-out jokes. It’s a favorite with campers of all ages.

That’s it for Day 3! Don’t forget to check out the photos.
