Session 5 Day 2

Typhoon update: At the moment, it looks like the weather will be okay through Friday afternoon or evening, with the bad weather coming on Saturday. However, it is still at the point where it could speed up, slow down, or make a small change in direction that would change the situation. We will continue to monitor it and provide regular updates.

Last night’s campfire was a great way to end the day. The counselors performed a funny skit that had the campers laughing, followed by a couple of active games that got everyone on their feet. We finished the evening by singing a special camp song and enjoying some delicious marshmallows.

This morning, we woke up to beautiful weather. The sun was shining, and a light breeze helped keep things comfortable as everyone got ready for another busy day.

The campers quickly moved into their activity rotations. Here is what each group did today:

The Red Team began with crafts, where they made woven bracelets. They then headed to the river for river tracing, followed by an ecology lesson after lunch.

The Pink Team started the morning with river tracing before exploring the natural environment during ecology. There are always plenty of insects, plants, and other small creatures to discover around camp, which makes this activity especially engaging. In the afternoon, they took on the Giant Swing, one of our most popular challenges.

The Blue Team played sports in the morning and then enjoyed a quieter craft period. Their afternoon activity was river tracing.

The Orange Team started the day with the Giant Swing and then moved on to sports. After lunch, they had a chance to relax and be creative during crafts.

The Green Team spent the morning learning about ecology and taking on the Giant Swing. In the afternoon, they headed to the sports field for some active games.

The Gray Team (Teens) started with the zipline. For the teens, we add an extra challenge by by having them hold a water balloon or two. They have to toss them down to their teammates as they go by. If they catch enough, they get a special snack. Then they moved on to cooperative games. In the afternoon, they challenged themselves with Giant Ladder. This is an element that requires not only some physical strength, but also a fair amount of teamwork.

The youth and teen campers together took part in another camp-wide game this afternoon. Today’s game was Battleship, inspired by the classic board game. The campers were divided into two teams, each with its own base and a counselor serving as the base master.

Red and yellow balls were hidden throughout camp, and the campers spread out to search for them. After finding a ball, they had to make it safely back to their base without being tagged by a member of the opposing team. A successful return allowed them to choose a square on the Battleship board, and the base master revealed whether they had scored a hit or a miss. The first team to locate and sink all of the opposing team’s ships wins the game.

The campers are having dinner now. Tonight we are planning to play Counselor Hunt, a camp version of hide-and-seek in which the counselors hide and the campers search for them. It is always entertaining for everyone involved, especially because some counselors become very creative when choosing their hiding places.
