Last night’s Movie Night gave everyone a welcome chance to slow down and relax. We watched How to Train Your Dragon, which fit perfectly with our medieval theme. After several busy days, the campers were ready for a quieter evening, and a few even nodded off before the movie ended. By breakfast this morning, everyone seemed rested, refreshed, and ready for another full day.
The weather continued to be mostly nice. There were a few drops of rain early this morning, but by the time we started our activities, it had stopped. It was quite a bit cooler today, which was a welcome change.
The campers had the following activities today.
Red Team: Frisbee Golf and Table-top games in the morning and Cooperative Games in the afternoon.
Orange Team: Climbing and archery in the morning, and Frisbee golf in the afternoon.
Blue Team: Archery and Frisbee golf in the morning, and table-top games in the afternoon.
Green Team: Cooperative games and climbing in the morning, and archery in the afternoon.
The teen campers spent the morning on their big-river tracing adventure. This route is larger and more demanding than the section used by the youth campers, with a few more challenging passages along the way. It also includes several deeper pools where the teens can jump in, cool off, and swim for a while.
Because the trip takes up a bit more than the two activity periods, the teens returned for a later lunch, followed by an extended rest period and one final afternoon activity.
Later, the teen and youth campers came together for today’s water Wide Game: Castle Rush. Colored balls representing medicine were scattered around camp, and the campers were divided into two teams. Their goal was to collect as many balls as possible and carry them back to their team’s castle without being sprayed or splashed by a counselor. Anyone who was hit had to drop the ball and search for another one. In practice, many campers were just as interested in chasing the counselors and getting soaked.
Tonight is Party Night, one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the week, particularly among returning campers. The counselors will dress as carnival workers and run a selection of booths inspired by both American carnivals and Taiwanese night markets. Campers will receive tokens to spend on the games and will have opportunities to win prizes. As the evening continues, the lights will dim, the music will turn up, and the carnival will transform into an energetic camp-wide dance party.
