The beautiful weather has stayed with us so far. I am a little afraid to say that for fear of ending our streak. It looks like it will stay good for the rest of the week at the moment.
The kids are getting used to sleeping in the tents, so they aren't waking up quite so early in the morning. They have pretty full days, so they are also getting tired, which also helps them sleep.
They are becoming familiar with their tentmates, and you can see real friendships forming among the campers. They are playing together and are mostly over that initial shy phase.
We continued with our rotation activities today. The youth campers had the following schedules.
Red Team: Giant Swing, Climbing, and Archery
Orange Team: River Tracing, Table Top Games, and Cooperative Games
Blue Team: Orienteering, Cooperative Games, and Climbing
Green Team: Crafts, Frisbee Golf, and Table Top Games
Gray Team: The teens had a big day today with their beach trip. There are 20 teens, so they split into two groups. Half of them went to the beach in the morning, and half went in the afternoon. They did Giant swing and crafts in the time that they were at camp.
The youth campers had their afternoon wide game in the final afternoon period. Today's game was called Capture the Crown, in keeping with our Medieval theme. Campers are given cards with various characters on them, including wizards, archers, dragons, serfs, etc. Each role can capture or be captured by various other roles. There is one crown. The goal of the game is for each team to move around camp challenging other players. The losing player has to turn over their card and go back to the base to get another one. Ultimately, the team that captures the opposing team's crown is the winner.
After dinner, we will have our weekly movie night. The campers have been going strong for 3 days, so they need a chance to wind down and recharge. We put carpets down on the floor and make popcorn. Tonight's movie is Shrek 2. It is a very funny movie that appeals to both the smallest campers and adults.
