The counselor hunt last night was a blast. The teens and youth campers do the night games together, so we had a mix of older and younger kids in each group. The counselors also hide in strategic spots so that some of them can be found very easily, but others are a real challenge.
Today was our phone call day. Hopefully, your child's counselor was able to reach you. In general, everyone is doing fine, so if the counselor didn't reach you, we will try to follow up by email tonight.
The weather was great, right through the day. It has been sunny and hot, and we have not had the afternoon rainstorms that we had on Monday and Tuesday. We are taking special care to keep the kids hydrated and covered in sunscreen.
Today, the teams had the following schedules.
Red Team: Giant swing and Climbing in the morning, and archery in the afternoon.
Orange Team: River tracing and Table-top games in the morning and Cooperative Games in the afternoon.
Blue Team: Ecology and Cooperative games in the morning, and Climbing in the afternoon.
Green Team: Crafts and Frisbee Golf in the morning and Table-top games in the afternoon.
The teens (Gray Team) had a big day today. They went to the beach for their kayaking trip. They got to paddle in the ocean and play a variety of beach games. Since the teen group is big this week, we split them in two. One group went in the morning, and one group went in the afternoon. When they weren't at the beach, the other half did Giant Swing and Orienteering.
The youth campers spent their last afternoon period playing a wide game. Today's game was a version of the popular boardgame battleship, but modified to be played as an outdoor game. Counselors spread colored balls around camp. Campers have to find the balls and return them to the base. Each ball returned, gives the camper to take a shot at the other team's boats. The first team to sink all the boats on the other team is the winner.
Tonight we will have our movie night. It is a good chance for the kids to settle down and rest a bit after a busy first half of the week. We put carpets down for the kids to sit on and serve popcorn to make it as much like a theater experience as possible.
