Session 2 Day 1

It has been a great first day here at camp! Pickup went smoothly — thank you to all the parents for your patience.

Once we arrived at camp, the campers unpacked into their tents and each team kicked off the session with some icebreaker and name games, giving counselors and campers a chance to start getting to know one another.

From there we headed to camper orientation, where each tent group reviewed our expectations for the week and signed our Community Standards and Behavior Agreement. We want every camper to feel safe and respected, and this agreement helps make sure everyone starts the session on the same page. Photos of each tent group with their signed agreement will be in the photos folder.

As a reminder for anyone new to camp: each day includes four 90-minute activity periods, with campers rotating through activities in their color teams.  Today, the teams had the following schedules:

Red Team: Sports

Blue Team: Giant Swing

Green Team: River Tracing

Orange Team: Catapult Games

Our Grey Team (25 teens) split into two groups switching between Archery and Climbing, so everyone got a turn at both.

Catapult games might need a little explanation. In keeping with our Medieval theme, the campers will construct a catapult out of PVC pipe, and play a series of games launching soft balls at targets.

For the final activity period, all the youth campers came together for our first Wide Game of the session — today it was relay games! A series of short challenges that last about 15 minutes each.

After the Wide Game, everyone headed down for showers before sitting down to a delicious dinner.

Tonight we're closing out arrival day the way we always do: our opening campfire. The counselors have games and songs planned, and of course we'll finish the night with s'mores roasted over the fire.

There is a link to the Dropbox folder with pictures of the day below. If you are not sure what team your child is on, start with the tent pictures folder. When you find your child, note the color of the lanyard on their name-tag — that is their team. Most of the pictures will be in that team's folder or in the whole-camp activity folder.

That is all for tonight. It has been a wonderful start to the session. Sleep well — we're looking forward to another great day tomorrow.
