Morrison Academy Grade 8, Day 1

Welcome from Camp Taiwan. The kids arrived right on time at about 9:45. Because they were on a big bus, they had a bit of a walk to get into camp. We were all settled in by 10:30 and had a quick orientation to go over some safety rules.

It was still a little wet this morning, so we started off with one of our indoor activities. This is a series of short games that are designed to get the kids thinking about strategy, teamwork, and communication. By the time, we finished this activity, it was time for lunch.

We usually have 4 ninety-minute activity periods each day in which the students are divided into teams of 12. The teams rotate through the schedule of activities throughout their trip. In addition, we have an evening program that all the campers participate in together.

For the afternoon activities, the two teams took turns with climbing and archery. Our climbing wall has 3 levels. Today, we set up levels 1 and 3. It has been a little chilly here to day, but we haven't had that much rain. We have been keeping warm with a fire inside the dining hall.

The kids had about an hour of free time between the activities and dinner. The hung around the fire for a little while and then played some group games of their own choosing. It is good to see the kids be proactive and plan their own activities.

They are just finishing their dinner now. After that, they will have a little time to write in their journals before we have our evening program. Tonight, that will be our campfire. We will sing a few songs and play some fun games. We will end the night by roasting marshmallows for s'mores.
