Mandarin Camp Day 2

Writer: MikeMike

Updated: Jul 1, 2024

We have had reasonably good weather today for our second day of camp. It has been overcast and a slight bit of rain, but certainly nothing that prevents us from carrying on our regularly scheduled activities.

After one full day at camp, the campers are getting settled into the routine of camp and making friends. They are learning to cooperate both in their games and activities as well as in their daily chores such as setting the tables for meals.

Both Blue and Yellow Teams had river tracing and orienteering this morning. For river tracing, the campers don protective gear: a helmet, water booties, and life jackets. They then follow the small stream that runs through camp up toward the source and through several nice pools. Along the way, several small waterfalls offer an opportunity to cool off and take a nice "shower."

In orienteering, campers are given a map of the camp and a a clue to a hidden location. When they find that, they have to unscramble a code in order to find the next location. They consult their maps and off they go to find and solve the next puzzle.

After lunch, the blue team started the afternoon with climbing, while the yellow team played a series of cooperative games. This is the reverse of the events yesterday.

Their final afternoon session of the day was what we call a "wide game." These are games where all the campers from all teams play together. Today's wide game was Rainbow Tag. Campers are given colored bandanas. They have to catch other people's bandanas in a certain order.

The campers are currently showering and getting ready for dinner. We have a night-time program planned for after dinner.

That's all for now. More pictures can be found at the link below.
