Our night hike was a great success. We didn't go far. It was more of a night stroll, actually, but the kids were able to catch a few frogs, some shrimp and crabs. The highlight of the event was that we found a large (non-venomous) snake up in a tree. You never know what you will see on a night hike, so seeing a snake was really a piece of luck.

We got lucky with the weather again today. It was a little bit warmer and a little bit sunnier than yesterday, but still comfortably cool. The kids seemed to go right to sleep last night , so they woke up full of energy and ready to meet the day.

We continued with our rotation activities today. I described most of them yesterday, so I will just mention them briefly.

The Gray Team had Orienteering and cooperative games in the morning. Cooperative games are short challenges that are designed to make the kids strategize to solve a problem, communicate, and cooperate. In the afternoon, they had the Giant Swing.

The Yellow Team had cooperative games and river tracing in the morning, and climbing in the afternoon.

The Pink team went river tracing and then tried climbing in the morning, and they learned to navigate with orienteering in the afternoon.

For our second afternoon activity period we had another wide game called Rainbow Tag. This is a lively team game that looks simple at first but quickly gets more complicated. Campers are divided into teams and given colored bandanas to hang from their pockets. Each color has to chase the next color in the rainbow sequence, so red chases orange, orange chases yellow, and so on. When a camper catches the right color, they bring that player back to their base and earn a stripe of that team’s color on their arm. Then they move on to chasing the next color. Since everyone is chasing one color and being chased by another, the campers have to keep track of both their targets and their pursuers. The goal is to collect every color of the rainbow before anyone else.

We are keeping our fingers crossed that the good weather lasts through tomorrow. But if it doesn't we will still be alright. We have arranged the schedule so that all of the activities tomorrow are under at least partial cover.

The campers are just finishing their dinner. After dinner, we will have our campfire. We usually do that on the first night, but we rearranged it so that we could have the night hike last night. The counselors have some funny skits and games planned, and then we will end the evening by roasting marshmallows for s'mores.

Below is a Dropbox link to today's photos. Tomorrow, I will post a link to the pictures for the entire three days, so be sure to check back.

Have a good night.
