Kuei Shan Day 2

It was a relatively peaceful night as far as the kids were concerned. They went to bed and there were no reports of any misbehavior. There was a wedding going on at a nearby facility, so there was some loud music. Fortunately, that is not something that happens regularly. The kids woke up bright and early ready for the day.

We continued with our rotation activities. The groups had the following activities. The Red Team started the day with river tracing in a small stream that runs through camp. Despite it being just a small stream, they all get suited up in life jackets, helmets, and river tracing shoes. They follow the stream up for several hundred meters, stopping at several points along the way. There is a small waterfall they can sit under and some pools where they play some games.

the Yellow Team had climbing, the Blue Team had tie-dye, and the Green Team had archery, all of which I talked about yesterday.

For the second period the Red Team got their chance at the zipline. They start from a platform about 8 meters from the ground and ride 150 meters along a cable. The scariest part (for me) is actually when you get to the other end and realize that you are going to go back. It takes a lot of courage to get off the platform, but once you do, it is pure fun.

The Yellow Team took their turn at river tracing, while the Blue Team scaled the climbing wall and the Green Team made their tie-dye shirts. All the teams will do all of the activities before the end of the trip.

In the afternoon, the Red Team had ecology, the Yellow Team did the zipline, the Blue Team went river tracing and the Green Team had their turn at climbing.

The final activity period was a wide game (a whole-camp game) called Rainbow Tag. Each team starts with a different colored bandana, and campers try to catch players in the order of the rainbow. For example, red chases orange, orange chases yellow, and so on. When a camper catches the right color, they bring that player back to their base and earn a stripe of that team’s color on their arm. Then they move on to chasing the next color. As the game goes on, it gets harder because campers have to keep track of both who they are chasing and who might be chasing them. The first player to collect every color wins.

The campers have all had their dinner and soon we will have our evening program. Tonight is Party Night. The counselors dress up and act as carnival workers running a variety of games similar to those found at an American carnival or Taiwanese night market. Campers are given tokens to spend on the games. Toward the end of the evening, the lights are turned down and the music turned up, creating a big dance party. This is a popular event, often talked about by returning campers.

Below is the Dropbox link for the day's pictures. There is a folder for each team and a folder for the whole camp activity. There is also an extra folder that has random pictures that were taken around camp. It could have pictures of any camper in it.

By the way, when we are taking pictures, the kids are moving around, and some of them come out a little blurry. When I go through the pictures, I don't delete very many. Even if some of the pictures are not exactly frame-worthy, I hope they give you a sense of what your children are doing.
