Welcome to our Parents' Blog for the HCAS grade 8 trip. We got a bit of a late start. It seems the bus took a bit of a wrong turn that cost about 20 minutes, but we made the most of it and went through a quick orientation before getting the campers off to their first round of activities.

Generally speaking, our day is divided into 90 minute activity periods plus a bit of free time or rest time after lunch and an evening program. The campers are divided into groups, and they will rotate through the activities during the activity periods. For example, when the purple team is doing archery, the yellow team might be climbing.

For today, the campers had the following schedules:

Yellow Team: Archery and Climbing (Giant Ladder)

Orange Team: Climbing (Giant Ladder) and Fire Making

Purple Team: Zipline and Archery

If you want to know more about some of these activities, you can find a description of some of them here: https://www.camptaiwan.com.tw/activities For the climbing activity, they did the Giant Ladder. It is a good choice for older campers because it is a real challenge and requires teamwork and strategy.

For the final activity period this afternoon, we had a wide game, which is a game that everyone plays together. Today's game was infection. The campers are given a chance to disperse before one person, usually a counselor to start, is patient zero. When they catch someone, that person then becomes infected and has to catch or infect other people. The winners are the last person (or people) standing and the person who infects the most people.

The campers have all had the chance to return to their tents and take a shower before dinner. They are just finishing up their dinner now, after which, we will begin our evening program. We will be having a party night tonight. The teachers and counselors will run games similar to what you might find in an American carnival or Taiwanese night market. We will also have a bit of a campfire campfire so that the campers can roast marshmallows and make s'mores.

Below is a Dropbox link to some pictures of the day. The teachers and some of the students also took some pictures, so be sure to check those out as well. Please note that you will have access to this blog for a limited time, so please download any pictures you want to keep.

That is all for tonight.
