It was nice for the kids to have a full day at Camp. It is always a different experience when you wake up and go to bed here. The weather was a little bit better today than yesterday. We had some periods of fairly heavy rain that caused us to move some things around in the morning, but for most of the day, it didn't rain that much despite being cloudy. We may be in for a bit more rain this evening.
The campers woke up early. The official wake-up time is 7:30, but many of the campers woke up much earlier than that and played games or chatted in their tents. They headed up to breakfast at 8, which gives them plenty of time to eat and a little free time before we start the activities at 9.
We continued with the scheduled activities this morning. The Blue Team started out with cooperative games, which as the name suggests is a series of games designed to challenge the campers to work together. They were supposed to have climbing this morning, but that is one of the things that got changed. After cooperative games, they went river tracing. That is one thing that is not affected by a bit of rain.
The Red team began with ecology. They were out in the rain a bit, but we were sure they were wearing their rain coats and we found some sheltered spots to catch some bugs and critters. After ecology, they finished the morning with climbing. The rain had mostly stopped by then, so it all worked out well.
After lunch, the Blue team finally got to do their climbing. There were some very impressive climbers in this group and quite a few kids made it to the top of the climbing wall. Meanwhile, the red team went on their river tracing adventure. The river is actually more of a small stream, as I mentioned at the informational presentation. But the kids still get to put on the life jackets, helmets, and river tracing shoes. It all adds to the sense of adventure.
For the final activity period, we had another of our whole-camp periods. Although the rain had stopped, the grassy areas were still pretty wet, so we had an indoor activity. The Red team and the Blue team got to go head to head against each other. Each team had one or two people come up to participate in an activity that takes from 1 to 3 minutes to complete. Whoever wins gets a point for their team and they move on to the next activity with a new group of participants. In the end, the score was even, so the teachers stepped in for a final tie-breaking round.
The kids have had their showers, so they are warm, dry, and at least mostly clean. They are having their dinner now and then will write in their journals again for a short time. Tonight, we have our Party Night activity. The counselors and teachers will set up a variety of carnival-style games for the campers to try their hand at. We usually close with a big dance party. It is a lot of fun for both the campers and the adults.
That is all for tonight. As last night, there is a link to a Dropbox folder with pictures of the day's activities. The password to this blog will change on Saturday, so please download any pictures you wish to keep.

By the way, we had a bit of a technical issue with the blog last night, so people were not able to access it until about 10 pm. Our apologies for the delay.
