Wow! There were some very excited kids arriving today. We quickly brought everyone up to the dining hall for a snack, along with a short orientation and safety briefing, before sending them off to their activities.

We had three 90-minute activity periods. The students were divided into six groups, with two groups participating in each activity at any given time. One of the activities combined bouldering and slackline. Bouldering is similar to rock climbing, but the kids stay close to the ground, so no ropes are needed. They move along the lower holds on the wall while being spotted by a partner and a counselor. The slackline is a strap stretched between two posts, and campers take turns supporting each other as they walk from one end to the other.

We also had an ecology activity. The kids spread out around camp to look for insects and small water animals. They had a great time sharing what they found when they came back to the dining hall. There seem to be some natural fishermen (and fisherwomen) in the group, as a few of the stories about fish and shrimp catches were quite exaggerated.

Our final activity was cooperative games, which are designed to encourage strategy, problem-solving, and teamwork. As always, the kids had a lot of fun with these.

Before departure, we gave everyone a final snack and then loaded the buses for the trip home. It was a great day for both the campers and the staff. We would also like to thank the teachers and parents who came to help—your support made the day run smoothly.

Below is a link to photos from the day. Please note that access to this blog will only be available for a short time, so be sure to download any pictures you would like to keep. There was a lot of action with these kids, so I am afraid some of the pictures are a little blurry. Hopefully they still demonstrate the fun the kids had even if they aren't exactly worthy of framing.
