Fifty happy campers arrived in a moderate rain this morning. We got them checked into their tents and up to the dining hall for a quick orientation, a snack, and an overview of the rules. Most of the campers have been here before, so it went pretty smoothly.

The campers are divided into teams of various colors. For their first period, they had the following activities. Blue Team had Zip Line, in which they streak about 150 meters along a cable suspended above the campus. The Pink Team had archery in our new archery range. The Gray Team had climbing, with two different routes to choose from. Finally, the Green Team had Orienteering. In this activity, they have to find a series of clues by following directions on a map. If they find all the clues, they should be able to solve a puzzle that unlocks a secret box.

After lunch and a rest hour, it was raining quite heavily. We still wanted to make the most of a rainy day, so we changed our schedule to have an indoor egg-drop activity instead of the planned outdoor game. We auctioned off some materials that the campers could then use to create a design which is supposed to protect an egg from a 2-meter fall. The kids showed great creativity with the limited materials and some of the eggs almost survived. The team with the most-intact egg will get an extra marshmallow at tonight's campfire.

For the final period, the rain had lessened a bit, so they were able to go out and complete their scheduled activities. This time Blue Team had Ecology, Pink Team had Zip Line, Gray Team had archery, and Green Team had Climbing.

There was still a bit of rain in the final activity period, but right after that, the campers all got to go take a hot shower and put on warm dry clothes.

They are just finishing up their dinner now. They will have a bit of time to write in their journals before we begin our evening campfire program. We will spend some time singing songs, playing games, and of course roasting marshmallows for s'mores.

That is all for tonight. You can find pictures at the Dropbox link below. Please note that you should be able to access these photos without requesting any further permission.
