On days like this, you just have to count your blessings. It rained a little in the morning, but the afternoon, although not exactly sunny, was pleasant enough. We can happily accept that considering the forecast.
The evening program last night was a great success. We had a special guest, Mike, the former director, show up for a visit. Many of the kids remember Mike and were happy to see him, although I think they were even happier to see Chewy.
This morning, we continued with our regular activities. The teams had the following schedules for the day:
Blue Team: Cooperative games, Crafts, and Climbing
Pink Team: Climbing, Cooperative games, and Ecology
Gray Team: Zip Line, Orienteering, and Cooperative games
Green Team: Ecology, Zip line, and Crafts.
Cooperative games are a series of short games that are designed to make the kids think about how to complete a certain task. They usually start out without really creating a strategy for success. After they fail a time or two, they begin to discuss what went wrong, and they start to figure it out. It is a very fun process to watch.
For our final activity period, the campers played a wide game. Wide games are games that all the campers play together instead of doing activities as teams. The one they played today was called infection. It is sort of a last person standing game. One of the counselors starts out as a virus, and the kids are given a chance to disperse. If the counselor catches a camper by taking their flag, that camper is infected. They have to infect other campers by taking their flags. The last camper to be infected is the winner.
The campers have had their dinner and are writing in their journals now. In a short time, we will begin our party night activities. The teachers and counselors set up a number of carnival style games for the kids to play. It is always a popular event.
That is all for tonight. The link to the pictures is below.
