Session 7 Day 4 ~ Rain or Shine, Feeling Fine!

Last night's movie was Hercules — an oldie but a goodie, and clearly still a crowd-pleaser. Campers snacked on popcorn and enjoyed the cool night air in the dining hall.

It's been a very wet week, but it hasn't slowed us down one bit. From moving the opening campfire under a covered area for s'mores to grabbing raincoats when needed, we're right at home in the rain here in the mountains of Wanli — one of the wettest regions in the country.

Today, the campers had the following schedules:

Red Team: AM – Sports, Archery; PM – Ecology

Orange Team: AM – Cooperative Games, Ecology; PM – Crafts

Green Team: AM – Crafts, Cooperative Games; PM – Archery

Our final activity period of the day was our weekly water wide game — and wouldn't you know it, the rain actually held off, though everyone still ended up caught in a shower of a different kind. The verdict was unanimous: an absolute blast, especially when campers turned their cups and water toys on their counselors for a surprise dousing.

There really is something wonderful about watching kids play in the rain — big laughs, closed-toe shoes splashing through puddles, not a worry in the world. Out here on Wanli's northeast coast, summer rain is simply part of the rhythm of camp, and some of the best memories happen exactly when everyone's caught in a shower.

Tonight we're gearing up for Party Night — a favorite for our returning campers, and one that's sure to win over the newcomers too. Counselors dress up in costume and run games straight out of an American carnival (or a Taiwanese night market!), with campers using tokens to play round after round. A DJ takes requests all night, and by the end, the dining hall has turned into one big, wholesome dance party.

That's a wrap on Day 4! Tomorrow is Free Choice Friday — campers get to pick their own activities for the day, including Zipline, a special option that's only available on Free Choice days.
