We couldn’t have asked for a better start to our trip. We were greeted with clear skies and perfect weather this morning as four busloads of eager campers rolled into camp right on schedule. After a warm welcome and a short orientation in the dining hall, everyone headed off to begin their first round of activities.
Our campers take part in 90-minute activity periods, rotating through different stations with their teams. Here’s what today looked like:
• Purple Team: Zipline and Ecology
• Pink Team: Crafts and Zipline
• Yellow Team: Orienteering and Crafts
• Brown Team: Climbing and Orienteering
• Red Team: Archery and Climbing
This session’s craft project was a woven water bottle holder, a fun and creative way for campers to make something practical for their adventures this week. For orienteering, campers were taught the basics of how to use a compass, and had to find a number of stations around camp. When they were finished, they had to use the clues to solve a puzzle. The campers doing ecology learned to identify different shapes and sizes of leaves.
To wrap up the day’s schedule, everyone joined together for a big group game, our outdoor version of Sushi Go! Inspired by the card game, this version sends campers on a quest around camp to collect sushi “cards” and complete their bento boxes. The twist? Teachers and counselors patrol the area with pool noodles acting as giant chopsticks! Anyone caught has to give up their sushi card and start the hunt again. It’s a fun game that gets the kids to work together and involves some of the teachers in a fun way.
After an active day, the campers had some time to shower and enjoy a hearty dinner. Later this evening, they’ll spend a few quiet moments writing in their journals before our opening night campfire. We’ll play some games, sing camp songs, and, of course, end the night with everyone’s favorite—roasting marshmallows for s’mores.
That’s all from us for today! Don’t forget to check out the day’s photos at the link below. Just a reminder—the password will change when the next session begins, so make sure to download your favorites soon.
