It has been another very nice day at Camp Taiwan. It hasn't been raining, but it is not too hot either. They are calling for rain tomorrow. We hope it will hold off until the kids have left, but if not, we have already rearranged tomorrow's activities are under at least partial cover.
The campfire last night was a blast. The kids were really into the stories and games. This has been a great group in general so far.
Today, the had the same enthusiasm for their activities. The teams had the following schedules.
Yellow Team: AM- Zip line and climbing PM - River tracing
Brown Team: AM - Tie dye and River Tracing PM - Zip line
Gray Team: AM - Cooperative games and Zip line PM- Giant Swing
The final activity period today was another camp-wide activity. Today's game was Hunt and Chase. This game shares some similarities with Rainbow Tag, but the structure is a bit more open and unpredictable. Like in Rainbow Tag, campers are divided into teams and given colored bandanas to wear from their pockets or waistbands. However, instead of having an individual winner, this game is about teams.
When a camper grabs someone else’s bandana, both players return to the catcher’s base. The captured player then switches to the catcher’s team color before heading back out into the game. This creates a constant shift in team sizes as groups grow stronger or slowly disappear.
While Rainbow Tag is about completing a full set of colors, Hunt and Chase is all about survival and momentum. The game continues until one team has taken over the entire field, becoming the last color left in play.
From there, the kids headed off to the showers to get ready for dinner. They will spend a little time writing in their journals again and then we will have a night game, Bigfoot.
In this game, all of the campers work together against the counselors. Several counselors are introduced to the children. They then go out and try to evade the campers. One of the counselors is Bigfoot and the object of the game is for the campers to capture Bigfoot.
When a camper manages to catch the counselor who is Bigfoot, they issue a challenge using a playing card. If the camper has the higher card, the round ends and the campers win. If the counselor’s card is higher, the camper has to surrender their card, and return to the base to get another one.
However, there are several twists in this game. One is that the counselors can switch who is Bigfoot at any time by passing the cards from one to another, which keeps everyone guessing and constantly on the move. There are one or two other secrets but I won't tell you those. The campers begin the game with limited information. As they figure things out, they develop strategies.
The game is played over several rounds, and part of the fun is watching how it unfolds. The counselors always win the first round or two, but as campers start to notice patterns and adjust their strategy, things begin to shift. By the end, it often turns into a well-earned victory for the campers.
Below is a link to the day's photos. Tomorrow, I will post link to the folder with all the pictures for the whole trip. by the way, I posted yesterday's wide game photos somewhat later than the blog last night. If you didn't see them, please go back and check out yesterday's photos.
That is all for now. Enjoy your evening.
