The final group of Grade 4 campers for the year rolled into camp full of energy and expectations. It is a smaller group this time, so check-in and orientation went quite quickly and they went right out to their activities a few minutes early.

For those of you who haven't been following the other groups, we have two 90-minute activity periods in the morning, two in the afternoon, and one more after dinner. The campers are divided into teams of about 15 people designated by a color. They then rotate through the activities in these teams. When you find a picture of your child, notice the color of the lanyard holding their name tag. That will tell you their team. The photos will be organized by team.

Today, they had the following activities.

Yellow Team: AM Archery, PM Giant Swing

Brown Team: AM Giant Swing, PM Climbing

Gray Team: AM Climbing, PM River Tracing

If you want to know more about these activities, some of them are outlined here: https://www.camptaiwan.com.tw/activities

If you have been counting, you will have noticed that I said we had two activity periods in the afternoon, but I only listed one. For the second afternoon period, we played a game called Rainbow Tag.

In this game, campers are split into teams and given different colored bandanas representing the colors of the rainbow, which they tuck into their pockets or waistbands. Each team begins at its own base. When the game starts, players spread out across the field, trying to capture members of the next color in the rainbow sequence by pulling their bandana (for example, red goes after orange, orange chases yellow, and so on).

When a player successfully catches the correct target, they escort that camper back to their base. A counselor then marks the catcher’s arm with a stripe in the captured team’s color using a face-paint marker. After that, the player moves on to hunt the next color in the sequence.

As the game progresses, it becomes more challenging since players aren’t always sure who is chasing them. The winner is the first camper to collect a full set of rainbow colors on their arm.

After the game all the campers headed back to their tents for a shower and a rest hour. They returned to the dining hall for dinner. They are just finishing their meal now. After that, they will spend a few minutes writing in their journals before the evening program starts.

This evening we will have our legendary Camp Taiwan Campfire. We have a series of songs, stories and games prepared for the kids. And of course we will end the evening by roasting marshmallows for s'mores.

Below is a link to some pictures for the day. Please note that you will only have access to this blog for a few days. As soon as the next school arrives, the password will change. If you copy the Dropbox link, that will remain active for a while longer, but we suggest that you download any pictures you wish to keep.

That is all for tonight. See you tomorrow.
