It has been another good day at Camp Taiwan. The weather was more or less the same as yesterday, off and on rain and damp fog. But that is not enough to stop the fun here at camp.
The kids woke up in high spirits. It was a relatively quiet night, so they were well rested. A rainy night can be a blessing in disguise. If the kids had any thoughts of mischief, the rain puts it right out of their minds. Furthermore, the pitter patter of rain tends to lull them off to sleep.
A brief note about the rain. We had some inquiries this morning. Although we did get some moderately hard rain at times, it doesn't seem to anything like what you experienced in Taipei. Big rain storms and lightning often get trapped in Taipei by the mountains and don't make it to us.
After breakfast, we went right back to our regular activity rotation. There were a full four periods today, although the last period of the day was another wide game. The teams had the following schedules:
Red Team: AM River tracing and tie dye - PM Climbing
Green Team: AM Tie dye and Giant Swing - PM Archery
Purple Team: AM Giant swing and cooperative games - PM Zip line
Orange Team: AM Cooperative games and climbing - PM River tracing
Blue Team: AM Climbing and archery - PM Tie dye
The wide game today was a Camp classic called Hunt and Chase. It is like Rainbow tag in that the kids are given a colored bandana to hang from their pocket. However, unlike Rainbow Tag, which pits individuals against each other, Hunt and Chase is a team game. Participant of one color try to capture any player of another color. If they are successful, they return to their base with their "prisoner" who is then given a bandana of the captor's color, and they switch to that team. A player can therefore move from team to team throughout the game. It ends when only one color remains.
The campers have showered and are eating dinner now. After a short period of writing in their journals, we will play a night game. This one pits all the campers together against a small group of counselors. One counselor of a small group has several playing cards, and all the counselors wander around. The campers have to figure out which counselor has the cards and challenge them. If the counselor has the higher card, they take the camper's card and the camper has to return to the base to get a new one. There are two tricks to the game that the campers have to figure out to win the game. The first is that the counselors can pass the cards from one to another. The other trick is a secret. You can ask your child about that one.
