What a beautiful day! The sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky as the buses full of excited campers rolled into camp. We checked them into their tents and went over a few quick rules and sent them right out to their first round of activities.

If this is the first time you have sent a camper to Camp Taiwan, we divide the campers into teams of 12 to 15 campers designated by a color. These campers will travel together and rotate through the activities in 90-minute activity periods over the course of their stay. For example, while the blue team is doing archery, the red team might be climbing.

Today, the Red Team had archery in the morning and zip line in the afternoon. The Green Team started out with zip line and had river tracing in the afternoon. The purple team had cooperative games for their morning activity period and tie dye in the afternoon. All the campers will come home with a new shirt of their own creation. The orange team did tie dye in the morning and moved on to giant swing in the afternoon. Finally, the blue team had giant swing as their first activity in the morning and cooperative games in the afternoon. If you want to know more about these activities, you can check out this page of activities.

There is one more afternoon activity period in which all the campers played a game together. The game today was Rainbow Tag, a popular favorite here at Camp Taiwan. In this game, the campers are given a colored bandana that they must hang from their pocket. (Not necessarily the same color as their color team.) They then have to catch individuals of the next color in the rainbow. For example, campers with a red bandana have to catch the orange bandanas, campers with orange bandanas have to catch yellow, and so on. Once a camper catches a bandana, they go back to the captured camper's base where a counselor or teacher will put a stipe of the appropriate color on the arm of the captor. They then return to the game, but the camper who caught the bandana now has to capture the NEXT color in the rainbow. The winner is the first person to get all the stripes of the rainbow in the correct order. It is a fun game because in the beginning, you know who is chasing you, but as the game goes on, it is harder and harder to tell who you have to keep away from.

After this final activity period, the campers all had a chance to rest and take a shower before coming up to dinner. They have finished eating and are spending a few minutes writing in their journals. We will then have our campfire program. We will play some games, sing some songs, and of course roast marshmallows for s'mores

Below is a link to a Dropbox folder with pictures of the day's activities. There is a folder for each color team and a folder for the whole camp activity. This is an open link, so you do not need to request any other access. Please note that the password to this blog will change when the next group comes to camp, so please download any photos you wish to keep.

Want More Camp Taiwan?

If your child enjoyed their stay at Camp Taiwan and you want a bit more, there are a couple of options.

Summer Camp

We have weekly sessions of our regular English summer camp in July and August and our Mandarin program from June 7th to 11th. Summer camp is a great opportunity for kids to develop confidence and independence by trying new things in a supportive atmosphere.

Family Camp

Family Camps are a way for the whole family to share in the fun and adventure of Camp Taiwan. Groups of 10 to 15 families ( Minimum 40 people) book the whole site and come share in the activities that your children have been telling you about. It is a great way to get to know the families of your child's classmates or your coworkers.
