Last night's campfire was a lot of fun. We sang a couple of camp songs, and heard a fun story about a king and queen and a dragon. We then roasted marshmallows for s'mores, and while we were taking turns roasting their marshmallows, we kept the rest of them entertained with some fun riddles. This group was very enthusiastic about participating in the campfire activities, which makes it a lot more fun.
The weather was much better today. Partly cloudy and cool, with no rain. We jumped right into our regular activity periods right after breakfast. Hopefully, you were able to figure out your child's team in the photos yesterday. Today, the teams had the following schedules.
Red Team: AM: river tracing and tie dye PM: giant swing
Green Team: AM tie dye and giant swing PM: cooperative games
Purple Team: AM: giant swing and river tracing PM: climbing
Orange Team: AM cooperative games and climbing PM: archery
Blue Team: AM climbing and archery PM: zip line
For our final afternoon period, we had another camp-wide game. Today, the game was Hunt and Chase. Similar to Rainbow Tag, campers are given a colored bandana to tuck into their pocket. However, unlike Rainbow Tag, which is an individual game, Hunt and Chase is composed of several teams. The point of the game is to protect your own color and capture the flags from the other team. When you capture someone's flag, they join your team. The game ends when there is just one color left.
The campers are enjoying their dinner now. As usual, they will get a bit of time to write in their journals. Some write some pretty lengthy entries; others less so. After that, we will play a night game.
In this game, all the campers compete against the counselors. One counselor is "it" and the campers all have to chase them. However, the counselors can change who is it. If the counselor gets caught, the camper will challenge the counselor with a playing card. If the camper has the higher value, the game ends and the campers win. If the counselor has the higher card, the game continues. The fun thing about this game is that it is played in several rounds. The counselors always win the first round or two, but as the campers figure out the game, they always win in the end. I have said enough. (If you have campers coming in future trips, please don't spoil the game by giving away the secret.
That is all for tonight. Again there is a link to pictures below. Please be sure to download the ones you want to save.
