It started out wet, but it got better as the day went on. The kids arrived during a shower, so we got their stuff packed away in their tents and got them up to the dining hall as quickly as possible. From there on, the weather improved steadily throughout the day, so we were able to hold all our activities.
The day is divided into ninety-minute periods, and they campers rotate through the activities in groups of 12 to 13. You can identify your camper's team by the color of the lanyard on their name tag, and look for pictures in that folder.
The teams had the following schedules:
Red Team: AM: archery PM: zip line
Green Team: AM zip line PM: river tracing
Purple Team: AM: cooperative games PM: tie dye
Orange Team: AM tie dye PM: giant swing
Blue Team: AM giant swing PM: cooperative games
There is an explanation of some of the activities here: https://www.camptaiwan.com.tw/activities
For the last period, we played a whole-camp game called Rainbow Tag. Campers are split into teams and each given a colored bandana to wear on their pocket or waistband. Each team starts at their own home base. Once the game begins, campers spread out and try to capture a player from the next color in the rainbow order by pulling their bandana (for example, red chases orange, orange chases yellow, and so on). After a successful capture, both players return to the captor’s base, where a counselor marks the captor’s arm with a stripe in the captured color using a face-paint marker. The player then moves on to chase the next color in the sequence. As the game progresses, it becomes more challenging since campers don’t always know who is targeting them. The goal is to be the first to collect a stripe for every color of the rainbow.
The campers have had a chance to shower and are now eating dinner. After dinner, they will have a short time to write in their journals before we have our evening program. This evening, we will have our campfire. The counselors will lead the campers in a couple of songs and some games, and there is an interactive story. We will finish it by roasting marshmallows and making s'mores.
That is all for tonight. Please see the link below to see pictures of your precious ones during the day's activities. Please note that you will have access to this blog for a limited time, so please download any pictures you wish to keep.
