The campers are now quite used to the camp environment and routine. They don't wake up quite as early in the morning, and it is easier for them to fall asleep at night. This session's campers are also making friends and really enjoying singing songs at mealtimes. It is nice to see them build confidence in themselves as they try new things and socialize.
We continued with our rotation activities as usual, even with rain falling all morning. Today, the campers had the following schedules:
Red Team: AM – Giant Swing, Frisbee Golf; PM – Ecology
Orange Team: AM – Climbing, Table Top Games; PM – Frisbee Golf
Green Team: AM – Frisbee Golf, Climbing; PM – Table Top Games
The rain stuck around into the early afternoon, mixed with patches of fog, but it didn't dampen anyone's spirits. As usual, our final period was set aside for a wide game — but once the rain grew too heavy during PM1, we made the call to move indoors for PM2. When wide games move indoors, we usually divide campers by color team and play a series of exciting challenges called Minute to Win It! The high energy and competitive spirit more than made up for the weather, and campers had a blast.
After the wide game, campers returned to their tents for shower time. Many youth campers truly enjoy taking a warm shower outside beside the babbling stream that runs through their tent area. The magic of nature always surrounds us here at Camp Taiwan, transforming mundane activities like bathing and eating into memorable experiences.
A quick note about the weather at Camp: there's a mountain between Taipei and Camp Taiwan, so conditions here are often quite different from the city. We sometimes hear from parents worried about storms they're seeing in Taipei that haven't reached us at all — and sometimes it's the other way around. We always appreciate you checking in, and please know we're constantly monitoring conditions and will make the safest call for everyone here.
This evening we will have our midweek movie night. Campers have had several full days now, and while it is still a social activity, movie night gives everyone a chance to settle down and recharge a little. We put out stools and mats on the floor and serve popcorn for the full movie experience.
That's a wrap on Day 3! Tune in tomorrow for Day 4 excitement. See the link below for today's photos.
