The campers are now quite used to the camp environment and routine. They don't wake up quite as early in the morning, and it is easier to get them to sleep at night. They are also making friends and becoming more comfortable singing the songs at mealtimes. It is nice to see them build confidence in themselves as they try new things and socialize.
We continued with our rotation activities. Today the campers had the following schedules.
Red Team: Giant Swing and Climbing in the morning and Archery in the afternoon.
Orange Team: River Tracing and Table-Top games in the morning and Cooperative Games in the afternoon
Blue Team: Catapult games and Giant Swing in the morning and Climbing in the afternoon.
As usual, our final afternoon period was spent in a wide game. Today's game was an original game designed for our Medieval Week. Campers are divided into two groups, and each group sets up a base. Each camper is given a card with a certain role on it such as dragon, wizard, archer, noble, serf, etc. Certain cards are more powerful and can kill or be killed by certain other cards. The lowly serf can be killed by anyone, but only a serf can capture the crown.
Unfortunately, our wide game was interrupted by a brief rainstorm after the first round. We moved inside and played minute to win it, which is a series of short challenges. Each team sends a camper to the front to take part in a game that only takes a minute or two.
Fortunately, the rain had stopped by the time the period was over, and the campers were able to return to their tents for shower time without getting soaked.
A quick note about the weather here. There is a mountain between us and Taipei, so the weather here is very different from the weather in Taipei. Often Taipei has violent thunderstorms and we get calls from concerned parents, when it actually didn't rain here at all. Today, there was some pretty serious lightning to the southwest, but we only had a very brief downpour and no lightning to speak of.
This evening we will have our mid week movie night. The campers have had several full days now, so they can use a chance to settle down and have a quiet night. It gives them a chance to recharge a little. We put out mats on the floor and serve popcorn.
That is all for tonight. Please see the link below for the photos.
