The Taiwan summer weather we all know so well has finally arrived at Camp Taiwan. It has been a hot day with just a few clouds from time to time. The weather report had a good chance of thunderstorms this afternoon, but we seem to have been spared.
We wrapped up our final two blocks of scheduled activities this morning, bringing our regular rotations to a close. Each team had a different lineup to enjoy:
Pink and Red Team got to bond through tabletop and cooperative games.
Blue Team had cooperative games before heading off to the climbing wall.
Green Team started their day on the climbing wall, then took aim during archery.
Orange Team switched things up with archery and a refreshing dip during Pond Play.
With the rotations now complete, the rest of the day shifted into a more flexible format. Campers had the chance to personalize their afternoon (and morning tomorrow) with free choice activities. From a list of five options—zipline, archery, climbing, shrimping, and frisbee golf—campers could sign up for their top three picks. A few activities offered a bit more than just fun: those who chose climbing and archery also had the opportunity to pick up new skills like tying knots or learning how to properly string a bow. For those who wanted, there was even a chance to test their skills and earn a Level 1 or Level 2 sticker.
Meanwhile, the teen campers took on another adventure-filled day with their Big River Tracing expedition. This more advanced version of river tracing follows a wider, deeper river and includes a few swim-worthy pools along the way. Everyone is suited up in life jackets and helmets, and the entire route is closely guided for safety. It’s a real challenge, but one the teens rise to with enthusiasm. Since it takes a bit longer than our regular sessions, the teens returned just in time for a later lunch and enjoyed a well-earned extra rest afterward.
In the late afternoon, the whole camp came together—teens and younger campers alike—for the always-popular Water Wide Game. This high-energy activity includes relay races, silly water games, and plenty of chances to get soaked. With temperatures high, it was the perfect way to cool off and wrap up the day with some laughs.
Tonight, we’re pulling out all the stops for Party Night! Counselors will transform into carnival staff, running a mix of games that feel like a blend of American fairs and Taiwanese night markets. Campers will use tokens to play for prizes, and as the evening winds down, we’ll flip the vibe to a dance party with music and lights. It’s a tradition many returning campers look forward to all week!
Now that we're into the free choice portion of the schedule, campers will be in mixed groups rather than their usual color teams. For this morning's activity pictures, check your child’s team folder. For the afternoon and tomorrow, peek into the specific activity folders instead—you just might spot your camper ziplining through the trees or crafting up a storm!
Have a good night.
