After waking up, campers got started on their morning routines—brushing teeth, tidying up, and getting ready for the day. Before heading out, each group had a quick tent meeting with their counselor. These short check-ins help everyone touch base, talk about how the night went, and make sure they’re ready for the day’s schedule.
With breakfast behind us, we jumped right into our usual rotation of activities. The teams participated in the following activities:
Pink and Red Team: River Tracing, Ecology, and Giant Swing
Blue Team: STEM, Giant Swing, and Sports
Orange Team: Sports, Crafts, and River Tracing
Gray Team (Teens): Archery, Zipline, Giant Ladder, and Table-Top Games
You’ll notice that the younger campers only have three activity periods listed. During the fourth period, they had what we call Tent Time. During this time, counselors meet with their campers in their tents and the group decides together what they want to do. It’s a great opportunity for counselors to connect with their campers and for the campers to enjoy an activity they choose themselves. One group played badminton, another worked with clay, and one tent got creative painting the camp vehicle with washable paint. It’s a lot of fun and a great chance for kids to express their creative side.
We’ve been lucky with the weather so far. It was another cloudy day, but aside from a few drops here and there, we stayed dry—right up until the final activity period, when we had a quick shower. We’ll count that as a win!
After finishing up their last activity of the day, campers had some time to clean up and take showers before dinner. With full stomachs, they’re now enjoying a quiet moment to reflect and write down their thoughts and memories in their journals.
Soon we’ll start our evening program. Tonight’s activity is an indoor challenge designed to keep everyone warm and dry, even if more rain rolls in. We’ll be playing The Flashlight Game. A boundary is marked with a rope on the floor, and a blindfolded counselor sits on a stool in the center of the dark room. Scattered around them are noisy objects—like plastic bottles filled with rocks. Campers stand around the edge of the space and take turns trying to sneak the items out without getting caught. If the counselor hears something and thinks someone is inside the boundary, they try to tag the camper with a flashlight. The group that collects the most items without getting caught wins!
That’s it for tonight. Be sure to check out today’s photos! Remember, these pictures will only be available for a limited time, so download any you’d like to keep.
