It hasn't been quite as hot here today, and there is just enough cloud cover to take a bit of the edge off the sun.
We have been continuing with our free choice activities for youth campers, so everyone gets to do a repeat of the thing they liked the best about camp. Today campers had a choice of zipline, climbing, archery, river tracing, and two different craft activities. One of the craft activities is a knotted friendship bracelet and the other is a small walking robot. The robot was a bit difficult for some of the kids, so not everyone finished it. I have put diagrams in the photo folder, so you can help them finish it at home.
The teen campers had an outdoor skills/cooking class. First they have to learn to kindle a fire. They are allowed to use a lighter for this. We are not so hard core that we just give them two sticks because, at some point, we actually want to get to the cooking. When they have a nice fire going, they made bamboo rice and and barbecued some meat on a stick. After their outdoor skills session, they made up their giant swing session that got canceled earlier in the week because of the weather.
Tonight youth campers and teens will join in the outdoor closing campfire. We have some special closing ceremonies and each color team will perform a skit. In the end, we will have another round of s'mores. It is always a very special time.
Here is the link to today's photos.
Important: tomorrow, I will post a link to the entire week's photos, including the end of the week slideshow. I suggest you wait for your camper and view the slideshow together with them, so they can explain all the activities and share their stories and friends with you.
Please note that for the sake of privacy, when the next group arrives at camp, the links to the photos will be removed from the blog. However, the link will remain active. If you copy and save the link, you will still be able to access the pictures at your convenience.
