It’s hard to believe that today was our last full day of camp. The week has flown by, and we’ve had a fantastic time getting to know all of these wonderful kids.
This morning, we wrapped up our regular rotation activities. The Blue Team went rock climbing, the Red Team put their skills to the test with table-top games, the Pink Team worked together in cooperative games, and the Green Team tried their hand at archery.
For the second period, we played one of our favorite wide games—Infection. Each camper started with a flag attached to their belt with Velcro and was given a chance to spread out and find a hiding spot or just roam around. After a few minutes, a counselor—acting as "patient zero"—entered the game. If the counselor pulled the flag from a camper’s belt, that camper joined the infection and worked to tag others. The game continued until only one camper remained uninfected. There are two winners in this game, the last camper standing and the camper who “infected” the most others. It’s always an exciting and fast-paced game that keeps everyone on their toes.
In the first afternoon period, we offered free choice activities. This is a chance for campers to revisit their favorite activities or try something new. The Pink and Red Teams had the option of doing the Zipline, since it wasn’t part of their regular schedule. Other options included archery, crafts, and frisbee golf. Meanwhile, the Green Team took on the Giant Swing, which they had missed earlier in the week due to the weather.
For the final period of the day, campers prepared for tonight’s closing campfire. Each team worked together to create a performance—whether a song, a dance, or a skit—to share with the whole camp. Campers often surprise us with their creativity, acting out funny moments from the week or gently poking fun at their counselors in good humor.
As we write this, the campers are enjoying dinner. Afterward, we’ll gather for our closing campfire. In addition to the skits, we’ll sing some camp favorites and hold a short ceremony encouraging the campers to reflect on their experiences, the friendships they’ve made, and the lessons they’ve learned. For many campers, it’s a meaningful and memorable way to end the week.
That’s all for tonight. We’ll return your campers to you tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. If you’re picking up your camper, please park in one of the nearby parking garages instead of along the yellow line, so our buses have space to unload safely. And don’t forget to bring your pickup card—or send it with whoever is coming to collect your camper.
