Session 2 Day 2:Waking Up at Camp

Today was our first full day at camp, and for many campers, it was their first time waking up away from home. As expected on the first morning, several campers were up and active well before the 7:00 rising bell, with tents buzzing like little hives of excitement. By tomorrow, though, we may find ourselves having to coax them out of bed after a full day of activity.
Each day at camp is built around four 90-minute activity periods—two in the morning and two in the afternoon. Midday, we break for lunch, followed by a rest period. Campers don’t need to sleep during rest time, but they stay in their tent areas for some downtime. This gives them a break from the afternoon sun and time to relax and connect with their tentmates.
The teams rotate through activities on a set schedule. For example, while the Blue Team is at archery, the Red Team might be climbing. Later, they’ll switch—Red Team goes to archery, and Blue Team heads to the Giant Swing. Today’s team schedules were as follows:
Red Team: Giant Swing, Sports, Crafts
Pink Team: Sports, Giant Swing, River Tracing
Blue Team: Crafts, River Tracing, STEM
Green Team: River Tracing, STEM, Sports
Gray Team (teens): Climbing, Cooperative Games, Archery, Zipline

In STEM today, the campers built small gliders with a creative twist. Instead of wings, they have two loops of paper, one in front of the other. For the first round, they followed step-by-step instructions to build a basic model. After testing their gliders, they experimented with modifications—changing the length or size of the paper loops, for example. The activity wrapped up with a friendly competition to see whose design flew the farthest.
You may notice that the youth campers have three activities listed, while the teens have four. During the final period of the day, the youth campers had "Tent Time." This is when each tent group decides with their counselor what activity they’d like to do together. It's a chance for the campers to bond with their tentmates. Sometimes, two or three tents will team up for larger group activities.
The campers are just finishing dinner now. Afterward, they’ll have a little time to write in their journals before our evening program. Tonight’s activity is a night game where campers will split into two teams and search for glow sticks hidden around camp. The goal is to sneak the glow sticks back to their base without being caught by a counselor. The team that accumulates the most glow sticks at their base is the winner.
That’s all for today’s update. Don’t forget to check out the latest photos at the Dropbox link below. The pictures will only be available for a limited time, so please download any you'd like to keep.
A quick note about photos: our counselors do their best to take lots of pictures and capture every camper in action. However, some activities require their full attention, leaving less time for photography. Also, some campers love the camera and jump in front of it every chance they get, while others are a bit camera-shy. If you don’t see as many pictures of your child as you expected, we appreciate your understanding.
