Our Party Night was a blast last night. The campers made the most of the activities, testing their skill and luck at all the different games. But without a doubt, the best part of the night was the dance party. The kids really got into it, and a few stood out with some pretty amazing dance moves. You’ll also find some pictures of your kids under black light, faces glowing inside roasting marshmallows. Those were taken during Party Night. (They were added later, so if you didn’t see them, go back and check the photos again.)
Today was our last full day of camp. It’s hard to believe how fast the week has flown by. The weather stayed sunny and hot, perfect for our final activities. This morning, we wrapped up the last of our regular rotations. Here’s what the campers did today:
Red Team: Giant Swing, Table-top games
Pink Team: Table-top games, Ecology
Blue Team: Ecology, Zipline
Green Team: Zipline, Archery
Orange Team: Archery, Giant Swing
Gray Team (teens): River Tracing (two periods), Giant Ladder
We had a couple of whole-camp special activities this afternoon. The teens tackled the Giant Ladder, a high ropes activity where campers work in pairs or small teams to climb a giant suspended ladder. The rungs are widely spaced and swing a bit, so it takes teamwork, communication, and a bit of creative problem-solving to reach the top.
Meanwhile, the younger campers played our Water Wide Game, a series of relay races, games and challenges involving water. There was plenty of splashing and spraying, and it was a fun, lighthearted way to cool off on a hot afternoon. The campers had a blast and it was a perfect way to end the day’s activities.
For our final activity period of the day, campers prepared for tonight’s closing campfire. Each team worked together to come up with a performance for the whole camp. With some help and encouragement from the counselors, the campers wrote their own scripts and practiced their shows. I haven't seen the performances yet. They are a closely guarded secret, but generally, some teams create songs or dance routines, while others put together lighthearted skits—many of which include a good-natured roast of their counselors. Some performances are polished, others a little less so, but all are fun and full of heart.
The campers are finishing up dinner now, and soon we’ll head down for our Closing Campfire. This is a special part of camp where the campers perform their skits, and we sing some of our traditional songs. There’s also a short ceremony where we reflect on the friendships made and the lessons learned over the week. We’ll recognize campers who have been coming to camp for many years—some for 7 or 8 summers in a row. It’s a meaningful and memorable way to wrap up the week.
That’s all for tonight. Tomorrow we’ll be bringing your campers back to you. We’ll arrive at Taipei Gymnasium around 3 p.m. If you’re driving to pick up your child, please park in one of the nearby parking garages instead of stopping on the yellow line, so our buses have space to unload. And please remember to bring the pickup card or send it with whoever is coming to collect your camper.
See you tomorrow!
Have a good night, and be sure to check out today’s photos at the link below.
