Session 1 Day 3

It dried up enough for us to play our outdoor game last night. The counselors his in a variety of places from pretty easy to find, to very challenging. There are a few campers who have been coming to camp for many many years, and they know all the places.

It was another beautiful day today, although the weather is getting a bit hot. Typical Taiwan weather. At least it is much more pleasant here than it is in Taipei, and it cools off quite nicely in the evening.

The campers had another full day today. The Red team spent a lot of time in the air, with Giant Swing and climbing in the morning. They came down to earth in the afternoon for archery.

The Blue Team started the day with ecology and cooperative games. Cooperative games are short challenges that are designed to get the campers to work together, often in competition with the counselors. In the afternoon, they had climbing. They could choose from either the level one wall or the cargo net.

The Pink Team played Pillow Polo for their sports period first thing in the morning followed by archery, In the afternoon, they played Frisbee golf. I think I have described this game before. If not, the name pretty much says it all.

The older boys on Green team had a quiet start to the morning with crafts, and then they livened things up a bit with Frisbee golf. They had a quiet afternoon again with table top games. They really enjoyed this part and really got into it.

The Orange team got their feet wet this morning with river tracing. Then they had a chance to settle down a bit with table-top games. The afternoon period was spent doing cooperative games, which are always a lot of fun.

The teens had a big day today with their beach trip. They played a variety of beach games and took turns learning to paddle a kayak. The beach trip is half a day, so they spent the other half of the day with orienteering and giant swing.

The youth campers played a wide game based on the popular board game Sushi Go that has been adapted as an outdoor game. The campers are given cards with pieces of sushi on them. They have to wander around camp and make the perfect Bento box without getting caught by counselors who are chasing them with "chopsticks".

We were planning to have a movie night tonight, but we changed it to party night at the last minute. This is one of our most popular activities. All the counselors dress up and run carnival type games. At the end, it turns into a big dance party.

Typhoon update: We will be returning the campers to Taipei on Thursday evening. We will have dinner here at camp and have our regular closing ceremony before leaving. We plan to leave camp around 7:00 pm and should be back at the regular pickup spot between 8:00 and 8:30 (hopefully closer to 8:00) There are a few things to note:

1: You should have already received an email from us announcing this return time. If you have not received it, please check your email including your spam folder. We ask that everyone respond to the email so that we know everyone has received the message. If you did not receive it, please email us at info@camptaiwan.com and put "Pickup for (camper name)" in the subject line.

2: If you are driving to pick up your camper, please park in one of the nearby parking garages and not on the yellow line in front of the Gymnasium. We will have 6 buses arriving, and we will need the space on the yellow line to unload the campers and their luggage.

3: The counselors will group all of the campers off to the side by bus. Please let the counselors collect the campers and their luggage before taking your child. It is very important that you check with the counselor before taking your child. If possible, bring the slip you were given when you dropped off your child. If you don't have it, please be sure to sign the paper. If you are sending someone else to pick up your child, please be sure to tell us who that will be and give us their phone number.
