After we left you at the school, it was a little over an hour drive to camp. We got all the kids settled into their tents, and checked in all the medicine with the nurse. We were ready to start rolling with our first round of activities by 10:30.

Our day is divided into 90-minute activity periods. We have two in the morning, followed by lunch and a rest period. Then we have two more periods in the afternoon. For the first period, each team played a variety of cooperative games with their counselors. This is an opportunity for the counselors to learn the kids' names and get to know them a little bit.

In the afternoon, we started our regular rotation activities. As you saw at the drop-off this morning, the campers are divided into groups of 15 to 16 person teams. They then take turns doing the activities. For this afternoon, they had the following schedules:

Red Team had tie dye and climbing

Yellow Team had archery and tie-dye

Blue Team had orienteering and archery

Green Team had Ecology and Orienteering

For the climbing wall, we opened three different routes. We had a level-one route, a level-two route, and the cargo net, so campers could really test their skills. The campers doing orienteering were given a map and a list of places to find clues. If they found all the clues, the could use them to complete a puzzle.

The ecologists in the group got a chance to explore all the insects around camp and investigate all the water animals in the numerous streams and pools around camp. And finally, everyone will bring home a new shirt of their own design from the tie-dye activity.

When the afternoon periods finished, the campers all returned to their tents for a shower and to get ready for dinner. They are eating dinner now. When they are finished, we will start our evening program.

Tonight, we will be having our opening campfire. The counselors will lead the campers in a series of games and challenges. We will end the night by roasting marshmallows and making s'mores.

That is all for tonight. As promised, there is a link below to a Dropbox folder with pictures of the day's activities. Please download any pictures you wish to keep. The password to this blog will change a few days after the kids leave camp.

By the way, We were asked to do a big group photo. Today, we had team activities, but tomorrow, we will have a whole-camp game, and we will be sure to take a good group photo then.
