KAS Grade 6 Day Two

Dave

Updated: Mar 12

We woke up to a cold rain this morning. It was still raining after breakfast, so we changed the schedule to have one activity period of indoor games that we all played together. The teams compete in a number of small challenges, such as balancing dice on a popsicle stick held between the teeth or stacking nuts (the kind that go on a bolt) with a chopstick.

The weather was improving by the second period, so we went outside to do our regular activities. It was still raining slightly, but wasn't the hard rain that we had in the morning, and most of the activities have at least partial shelter. Unfortunately, we canceled the Giant Swing for the morning because there is no shelter there and it can be very windy. Instead, we had the campers play Frisbee Golf. That is still outside, but it is down in the valley, so it is much more protected from the weather.

The groups had the following activities today:

Before lunch

Blue Team: Frisbee Golf.

Pink Team: Cooperative Games

Yellow Team: Zip Line

Green Team: Archery

Orange Team: Climbing

After lunch

Blue Team: Cooperative games.

Pink Team: Zip Line

Yellow Team: Archery

Green Team: Climbing

Orange Team: Orienteering

Our final afternoon activity period was a wide game called infection. A wide game is a game that all the campers play together regardless of their team. In the game of infection, there is one person, usually a counselor or teacher who is it. They are analogous to Patient Zero in an epidemic. The campers are given a bit of time to disperse. If a camper gets tagged, that person is also "it."The game continues until everyone but one (or maybe two) person has been tagged. The last person tagged is the winner.

After their activities, they had a shower to get dry and warm before dinner. They are eating their dinner now, after which, we will have our party night. This is an indoor activity where the counselors and teachers host a number of carnival (or night market) style games. Campers can visit the different stalls to play the games or just dance to the music. The evening usually ends in a big dance party. It is a lot of fun and the kids love it.

That is all for tonight. Like yesterday, there is a link to some pictures below.
