KAS Grade 5 Day 2

The campers were up bright and early this morning—which is pretty typical for the first full day at camp. The morning bell rings at 7:30, with breakfast at 8:00. Today’s breakfast was scrambled eggs, bacon, and grilled cheese sandwiches. The campers finished quickly and had a bit of free time before heading into their first activities.

For the first two activity periods, the schedule was as follows:

• Orange Team: Giant Swing and Slackline

• Green Team: Frisbee Golf and Giant Swing

• Brown Team: Cooperative Games and Frisbee Golf

  
  

After lunch, the campers had a rest period in their tents. They don’t have to sleep, but it’s a good chance to slow down and have some quiet time. Some campers read or play cards, while others just relax with their tentmates.

In the afternoon, activities continued:

• Orange Team: Frisbee Golf

• Green Team: Climbing

• Brown Team: Giant Swing

  
  

Our final activity of the day was a wide game. We had originally planned to do a water wide game, but since it’s still a bit cool and overcast, and even misty or foggy at times, we switched to Rainbow Tag instead.

In Rainbow Tag, campers are divided into teams and given colored bandanas to hang from their pockets. Each color is assigned another color to chase, following the order of the rainbow. At first it seems simple, but it quickly gets confusing as campers try to keep track of who they’re chasing—and who might be chasing them. It turns into a fast-paced and energetic game.

The campers have had time to shower and are now finishing dinner.

After dinner, we’ll head into our night game, Bigfoot. In this game, all the campers work together to compete against a few counselors. The campers are given playing cards, and only one of the counselors holds cards at any given time. The campers challenge counselors one by one, trying to beat them with a higher card. However, the counselors secretly pass the cards between themselves, so the campers never quite know which counselor actually has the cards. It keeps everyone guessing and adds a fun element of strategy.
